Biskopsgården in Gothenburg is an area close to the city undergoing development. The EU project TillVäxt Biskopsgården, Growth Biskopsgården, is the result of many years of co-operation and commitment among industry, the public and private sectors and residents.
TillVäxt Biskopsgården consists of the following sub-projects:
Friskväderstorget
Friskväderstorget is North Biskopsgården’s main square. It is a thoroughfare, shopping area and open space for residents. The square will be rejuvenated to make it more pleasant, safer and more functional for residents, businesses and visitors. There will be new meeting places and playgrounds, new lighting, outdoor cafés, new paved areas, better parking and more stylish facades.

Foreign relatives and friends tourism
Currently there is no real knowledge around tourism that relates to those visiting friends and family in Sweden. This pilot project is run in co-ordination with the Tourism Research Institute. Surveys and interviews will give an insight into what form such tourism will take. This will be used as a foundation for development and entrepreneurship by the tourism industry, not just in Biskopsgården but also in Gothenburg and the rest of Sweden.

New bus routes
Biskopsgården has good transportation facilities to and from the centre of Gothenburg but lacks direct connections with other nearby areas of the city. A new bus route will begin connecting Biskopsgården with Bjurslätt – becoming a link to Björlandavägen that currently does not exist. Improved public transportation makes the area more enjoyable and in this way can attract more new business ventures and reduce traffic.

Community centre
The area currently needs venues for larger events. A community centre will be built next to Friskväderstorget. It will be possible to hire the venue for large private parties, sports activities, dance, music, seminars and cultural events but it will also function as a meeting place for business advisory services and non-profit organizations.

Brand strategy
Biskopsgården will be developed into a sustainable area of the city. The positive changes will be spread with a proactive advertising campaign. For this to happen, long term work with branding is necessary. Through co-operation with private industry and the public and non-profit sectors we will work towards the common goal of a systematic development of the brand – Biskopsgården.
